You can understand the Channels in Human Design by realizing a strict hierarchy. A Bodygraph (dreamrave chart) is a schematic depiction of your being. The first thing you should pay attention to when viewing your Bodygraph after decoding the Type and Profile is which of the 9 Centers you have defined. The Centers themselves are energy nodes in which your individual life force is formed.
They are interconnected by a network of Channels, making up the interconnected neural system of your body on the basis of which it operates in the surrounding world. Channels serve as a kind of “highways” down which life force flows from one Center to another, from one Gate to another.
If the Center may be called an energy node, then the Gate will then be the “entry” point – a place through which the energy flowing through the Channels enters and leaves a particular Center. Each of the Gates has its own number and its own unique quality, depending on the Center in which they are located. The name of the Channel and what its nature will be expressed in depends on the Gate with which it is formed.
There are 3 kinds in total:
Those places where the Channel is completely filled determine your uniqueness. The energy circulating through the activated Channel is stable. These are permanent traits that are inherent in you from birth to death, the expression of the “basic” qualities of your self. And most importantly, certain channels indicate the qualities that you need to focus on in your life. Do not try to create something on your own, but be focused on improving what is already there.
If the Channel is partially painted over, it means that in your Design you will see only the quality that is defined by one of the Gates – those from which, according to the drawing of your Bodygraph, the energy “flows”. It will be analyzed a bit further on an example. Theoretically, this partially filled/defined Channel is always ready to be “on”. But for this, you need another person – the one who will have the Gate activated on the other side of this Channel.
Undefined Channels manifest in your life from time to time, also by conditioning by other people or planets. These Channels define features that are not yours all the time, but that may periodically affect you.
For example, if you have undefined Alpha Channel 7-31, which is responsible for leadership, and it is defined in the person you are meeting with, then you can try to “imitate” its qualities. So, you will try to appear as a leader, demanding respect for yourself. But the difference with a person with this Channel is that leadership will be literally in his or her blood. You will need to climb out of your way to gain the same authority that another has as a “basic” trait.
By the way, it is precisely the undefined Channels that can be vulnerable to the manifestation of the False Self. These are the places through which your Mind will try to prove itself, although you do not have the appropriate qualities for this. We can say that the False “invents” the presence of characteristics inherent in these Channels, ignoring the fact of their absence inside you.
It is also important to consider the color that indicates the Channel in your Bodygraph.
If the Channel is half-filled, this means that it is defined only by the Gate. From this, it turns out that the quality of such a Channel is expressed by the property of only those Gates that are defined in it. For a full-fledged “activation” of such a Channel, interaction with a person whose opposite Gate is defined is required.
Let’s take an example of a Bodygraph drawing. We will try to explain to you the basic principles of reading Channels in Human Design.
Here, first of all, we see a completely shaded, consciously expressed Channel 15-5, called the Rhythm Channel. Further, we have the Logic Channel 63-4, which can be expressed both consciously and unconsciously.
There is a partially filled Openness Channel 12-22 where only Grace Gate 22 is defined. This means that the character of a person with this Bodygraph, will trace only 22 Gate, and he will subconsciously strive to meet those who have Caution Gate 12 defined to create a “one-piece” Channel.
And, for example, there is also an unactivated Channel of Transitoriness, Jack of all trades 36-35, which qualities may become the topic of conditioning the False Self for the owner of this Bodygraph.
Something like this happens reading the Rave Chart associated with the Channels. But of course, it is worthwhile to devote much more time to each of the specific, undefined and partially defined Channels in order to analyze in detail the mechanics of its operation in each particular case.
