What is a Bodygraph?

A Bodygraph is a unique map that represents the energetic structure of a person within the framework of the Human Design System. This system combines elements of astrology, Kabbalah, the chakra system, I Ching, and genetics, creating a comprehensive approach to understanding human nature. The Bodygraph is built based on the date, time, and place of a person’s birth, revealing how activated centers, channels, and gates interact with each other, forming individual qualities and characteristics. By understanding your Bodygraph, you can learn how to maximize your strengths and avoid potential pitfalls associated with open centers.

Structure of the Bodygraph

1. Centers:

There are 9 centers in the Bodygraph, each connected to specific life aspects and functioning differently depending on whether they are activated (colored) or open (uncolored). Activated centers represent stable qualities, while open centers indicate areas where a person is receptive to external influences. Here are the main centers and their meanings:

  • Root Center: Responsible for basic instincts and survival, associated with physical energy and stress.
  • Sacral Center: The source of life energy and pleasure, connected to instinctive reactions.
  • Solar Plexus Center: Reflects emotional experiences and inner conflicts, influencing personal power.
  • Spleen Center: Related to self-preservation instincts and intuition.
  • Ego Center: Responsible for willpower and self-esteem, influencing decision-making.
  • G Center: Associated with identity, direction in life, and love.
  • Throat Center: Responsible for communication and self-expression.
  • Mind Center: Connected to thought processes and analytical abilities.
  • Crown Center: Associated with inspiration, intuition, and connection to higher levels of consciousness.

2. Channels and Gates:

Channels in the Bodygraph connect centers, creating energy pathways through which energy flows. Each channel consists of two gates—energy points activated by planetary influences at the time of a person’s birth. Activated gates form specific qualities or tendencies within a person. For instance, if Gates 23 and 43 are activated, this creates a channel symbolizing the process of manifesting and transforming ideas into reality. A complete channel is formed when both ends are activated, strengthening the connection between centers and creating a stable energy flow, which can manifest as a specific energy or characteristic in a person’s behavior

3. Types:

There are four main types in Human Design:

  • Manifestors: Initiators who can create new directions and actions but require freedom and autonomy.
  • Generators: The driving force, capable of creating their lives from their inner response to the world.
  • Projectors: Guides who assist others but need recognition and invitations for actions.
  • Reflectors: Unique observers who reflect the surrounding world and require time to make decisions and understand deeply.

Each type has its strategy for interacting with the world, influencing its role in society and how it finds satisfaction in life.

4. Profile:

A profile in Human Design consists of two numbers known as lines—one reflecting conscious aspects of personality and the other subconscious. Each line in a profile describes how a person expresses themselves in various situations and interacts with others. For example, Line 1 may indicate a research-oriented approach, while Line 4 is often associated with social connection and forming lasting relationships.

5. Authority:

Authority in Human Design  is a decision-making mechanism that helps determine how to act most effectively in life. It can be:

  • Emotional: Requires time to process emotions before making decisions.
  • Sacral: Based on an immediate response to what excites.
  • Spleenic: Instinctive decisions based on inner feelings of safety.
  • Other types of authority may vary depending on activated centers and their interconnections.

6. Definition and Openness:

In the Bodygraph, colored centers are considered “defined” and indicate stable personality qualities. Open centers, on the other hand, show areas where a person is more susceptible to external influences and can learn from others’ experiences. This allows the individual to accumulate knowledge and wisdom but can also create vulnerability to external pressures.

Interconnection of Bodygraph Elements

The elements of the Bodygraph are closely interconnected. Centers interact through channels that connect them, while gates are activated under planetary influence, creating unique qualities for each individual. A person’s type determines how they express themselves in society, and authority helps navigate decision-making. All these elements together form an energetic map that shows how a person interacts with the surrounding world and themselves.

“Understanding oneself is the key to harmony with the surrounding world.”

— Anna Bennett

“Individuality is a wealth that we all must cherish and develop.”

— Laura Wilkinson
